Yes. Connected to home WiFi and USB-C power, the PUC records and identifies birds continuously, 24 hours a day. Detections appear in the app and web dashboard in near real time. Continuous backyard monitoring is the PUC’s most common use. Portability is an additional mode, not a limitation.
The PUC identifies 6,424 bird species using BirdNET, developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Chemnitz University of Technology. BirdNET also recognises frogs and some insects, for 6,522 classes in total. A separate ultrasonic classifier on the PUC Bat Edition identifies a further 298 bat species. Every detection carries a confidence score and a probability score, both of which you can filter. A forthcoming BirdNET v3 update will add nearly 5,000 more species, including over 3,300 additional birds and much broader coverage of frogs, insects, and mammals.
Yes. Every detection, soundscape and sensor reading is available through your web dashboard, CSV export, and a public API. There is no subscription and no paywall on your own data.
The PUC does continuous backyard monitoring and portable recording in one device. It adds GPS, environmental sensors (temperature, humidity, pressure, air quality, light), a microSD card for recording away from WiFi, and adjustable confidence and probability filtering.
